I guess you all must have already experienced the heat of entrance preparation by now..
I know half of you must be actually worrying about the way you have been preparing and rest I Guess must be worrying whether you all be getting a seat this time…
There are two best thoughts which needs to be remembered each moment when you are sailing through these stressful days.
For the first half the people who are worrying.. “Success belongs only to those who are willing to work harder than anyone else”
And for those who are prepared well I guess you all should remember one thing.. "There is always a light at the end of tunnel”
I know the feeling which each one faces in those days of entrance preparation.. but No FEAR.. that’s actually needed the most to keep you r clock ticking..
It was almost 1 and half years now after writing that most acknowledged Blog I wrote for showing a hope for the new aspirants who face one of the big question when they just think about MDS preparation… “ How I prepared for my MDS entrance “ has been read around 4-5 thousand people till now, has been uploaded on many sites too and indexed by Google.... I am really thankful to all those kind people who enabled to make me a mark on the path of this difficult journey of MDS preparation.
Although the blog does solve most of doubts about entrance prep.. but few things did missed out in that blog of mine. I did promise to few of my sweetest aspirants that I will be writing the new one soon.. And for those who waiting it.. HERE it GOES
“THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MDS ENTRANCE”
Have received many mails, calls, asking many question.. most of the time they are repeated so often that sometimes I even felt like just copying and pasting my earlier response.. I am sure may be for the next 5 years these following questions will arise in each of the budding aspirants who keeps the first step in the path of entrance preparation. I have tried sincerely to explain each of them, in the way so that each one of you understands it. I have surely made the language simple , just to make you feel that you almost talking to a person who have always tried to make support the new aspirants… Believe in one thing.. U HELP SOMEONE TODAY, GOD WILL SURELY HELP U SOMEDAY.. HERE IT GOES :)
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY ENTRANCE
I guess my first blog clearly gives the answers for this question. I request the first time readers to go through my earlier blog before reading this new blog.
HOW MUCH TIME IS NEEDED FOR PREPARATION?
Now time is money here.. it all depends on whether you are dropping or just preparing during internship.. keeping that point apart, you should make a time table of yours in which you should mark a deadline for each subject.. make sure the amount of time you allotted for successive revisions are less than the earlier one,, so if you plan your study this way then you will get a rough idea about the level of preparation you will be doing at the end of prep.
IS IT NECESSARY TO DO THEORY?
Now there are many people who give a different formula for entrance prep.. but you all should know one thing.. nobody guaranties you the success.. but yes.. they do give a hope.. somebody has said the truth.. “ To know the path ahead, ask those who are coming back” . This just means that if somebody has got success then you surely have a hope in that path.. but each you all should remember one thing.. every individual is different. Hence the amount of effort put by each individual is different and luck too.. but one thing you all should remember is, U REALLY CANT SAIL IN TWO BOATS AT A TIME.. “ the best advice to you all .. trust one , and follow it… don’t complicate things by listening to too many people.. ask one person who got a true success and follow it.,, what matters is the amount of trust you put in his words.. that’s what is imp to keep yourself motivated.. It also depends on your time and how you have read in your BDS days.. I never had time to read theory in my internship but I had worked hard during in my UG, so I was not much scared about the standard book.. but those who have taken a break of another year , I advise them to read the theory to because they have lot lot time for prep..
SHOULD I JOIN ANY COACHING ?
This is a complicated question!!.. the answer is not easy too.. I was from a small town called Belgaum where you hardly have coaching institutes,, and the other factor is the time you have to do for preparation..
The answer is!! Yeh do Join it.. only if you can… why??? The answer is simple.. in batch of 100 BDS students there will be 5 who rare truly interested in MDS entrance prep.. so imagine having 100 of such people who are constantly surrounding you , who are much serious about entrance than you are,!! How does that feel.. FEAR isn’t it… that’s actually which is needed when you start entrance prep.. you do need that fear which always motivates you for it..
But One thing holds true in this matter.. the final result does not depend on what coaching center you joined.. its once hard work which matters the most,. ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS!! Although u need to give some part of your credit to the coaching center .
Coaching center is the best place where you will be getting the latest question of various entrance examination.. This is most imp when it comes to securing a best rank in entrance.. getting those questions from the coaching institute is almost equal to giving all entrance exams.. but yes. It although completely can’t take the place of those exams.
SHOULD I JOIN A TEST SERIES?
This question was most asked by those who are devoid of coaching centers in their places…The answer is YES!! Now the other question which follows this..??
SHOULD I JOIN ONLINE TEST SERIES.?
The answer is NOOO * [ * conditions apply].. lol…. the reason why I said Nooo is because you don’t really feel anything when you give exams on this dumb box.. yehh try it once. it’s like just trying a new application on Facebook. He he...
Now why the[ *].. that’s because for those who don’t have classroom test series option then it’s a must to go for online test series.. “something is better than nothing” isn’t it??
The advantage of joining a test series specially the class room test series is it makes you feel the fear of exam which you will eventually get used to.. the another advantages is, you really can judge how many repeated question you missed in each exam… this gives you an idea about the amount of prep you needed so that you don’t miss the repeated once.
Two things which you all need to remember when it comes to test series.. you hardly have time to revise the explanation given by test series.. ya.. that’s true.. at the end of the year its damn difficult to revise those with books.. so make sure you give the best attempt every time so that you don’t have to repeat it again.
The 2nd thing you need to remember is not to follow the time table which the test series follows.. you really can’t do a single subject a full week and get top rank in that exam . if you do that then at the end of the year you will end up with 2-4 revisions only. that’s not the right thing .. maybe that’s ok for the first 2 months.. after that you need to have your own timetable so at the end of year you are done with many revisions .. so do remember this!!
WHICH ALL BOOKS NEED TO BE DONE?
Now there are lot many .. my first blog explains mentions all of them, so let’s not go in to depth.. yes.. many people do tell you to read theory.. but believe me , if you are sincere in attending internship.. then you hardly have time for it.. but if you have taken a break after internship then do it.. its imp to join coaching if u take a break because you need constant force to move ahead in this dark path of entrance so that you can reach the light at the end.. which is really difficult to travel along
Another imp thing which you should remember is to get all new editions of the books so that you don’t mug the wrong answers and you miss out any new question..
WHICH ALL EXAMS SHOULD I GIVE ?
Now that’s a big question!! That depends on how much money and time you have :P.. I believe you should give all genuine once.. why?? I still feel great to say that I got ranks in 6 out of 8 exams which I gave..
The must exams are
AIIMS
AIPG
PGI
KCET (Other state entrance)
Comed- K
Manipal/ MAHE
Apart from this there are
BHU( is an imp option)
KLEe/KAHE( too difficult and too easy sometimes)
Abshetty/NITTE
And still lot many like Yennapoya, linguistic minority and many other states private college association
No matter what exams you planning to give… Always AIM AIPG… and I am sure you will end up somewhere..
Ya. Few of you must be laughing over it.. but believe me.. it’s not a cake.. the path is really hard.. you miss out something.. then you missed it completely. So do give 100% every time.. it’s better to worry now rather than regretting later that u missed out something.
CAN I PREPARE FOR ENTRANCE ALONG WITH WORKING IN CLINIC?
Now.. There are few great people who are born intelligent.. I am not one them.. but I do believe in one thing.. Always give ur 100%.. It’s better to give your best attempt now rather than thinking why I gave only 99%.. Yes that does mean a lot of risk for one,,, but LIFE IS ALL ABOUT TAKING RISK.. nothing is easy.. preparing for entrance with that BIG QUESTION MARK!! FUTURE is risky,, but you really can’t sail in two boats at a time. The decision is based on how much work you have done in your UG and how much a MDS is imp for you.. I leave the decision to you..
MY DAD HAS LOT OF MONEY,, SHOULD I TAKE A MANAGEMENT OR READ FOR ENTRANCE?
Hmmm.. looks funny isn’t it!! No offence.. When a person has 100 rupee note in his pocket , its only then he thinks of spending 30 of it.. I guess you got the point.. first check whether you have one.. tell your parents not to expect you to make that 30 rupee into 100 as soon as you come out.. you should not judge the MDS seat value in that way.. you are paying such high amount as you have skipped the most stressful days of life.. so be happy for that.. time is money.. but if you sure of not having a confidence of clearing the entrance then listen to your dad.. after all whatever he has done in life is just you see happy
But do remember the taste of success tastes better with hard work,,, nothing can match that happiness
WHAT ABOUT MY GIRL FRIEND/ BOY FRIEND :)?
Someone did ask me this question when he read my first blog… I did advise him not to fall in love during entrance prep.. Another guy even reacted strongly saying few true words.. “love just happens…. But keeping that fact apart, I am really not against it.. you need know the imp of each things in life.. I just want convey you one message.. its damn difficult to find a partner who understands the imp of these days ,, I never said not to fall in love before or after entrance preparation day.. but if you have found a girl/boy who really supports you in these days and may be who is also trying for entrance prep then I guess you have found the one.. best of luck in this matter.
THE BIG QUESTION!! HOW TO MARK THE ANSWERS?
Now I follow rule of 4 for answering any paper..!!
1st rule- Around 50% of questions in any exams almost repeated from either textbooks or MCQ books.. so always answer those first. If your preparation is really good then by the time you read the first 2 words of the question, you will come to know that the question is repeated.. but if you feel that it’s not a repeated one, then don’t waste time in reading and trying to find answer. Just skip it..
2nd rule- Rest 20 % questions are indirectly related to the old question.. here you need to spend bit little extra time so that you can find the answer ,, but if you really not getting the answer then this needs to be answered by the rule 3rd. but before that complete the 2nd round
3rd rule- This rule is for the difficult questions .. this really tests you… it can be only answered by the extra knowledge which you have gathered whole year.. these are quite new questions.. but still answerable.. its these question which decides whether you will be in those top ranks…
4th rule- This is for the exams which do not have negative marking—this completely depends on your luck and logic.. so try it on at the last,,
So these rules should be followed one after another. That means.. 1st rule--- complete the paper—apply 2nd—complete the round—then it goes on
The advantage of doing this , you will know the amount of right question you already answered by the time you finished the first 2- rounds.. and you won’t be spending much time in answering the difficult question.
Believe me ,,, when you follow this pattern then you will finish the papers in half of the time which is allotted. I have done that.. but Yeh.. it depends on the number of revisions which you have done too..because most of the entrance exam is memory based.
Try it.. it works
IS THERE ANY SPECIAL PREPARATION BEFORE EXAMS??
Yes !!!! It starts 10-15 days before exams… specially before Aiims and AIPG..
No matter how many preparation you have done, there will be few subjects which you feel difficult.. so make sure you revise it 5-6 days before the exams.. and also make sure that you revise all the papers specially the exams which you will be giving first..
The next question is what if you have continuous exams??. I guess you will be hardly having few long breaks after giving AIPG as you will be having many exams after AIPG.. so you all need to remember one thing.. decide which is imp for you…for me Kcet was next imp exam , so I had around 15 days after AIPG.. so I planned a revision in those 15 days,, although I had 2 exams in between those.. but I only gave one day for revision of the papers of those in-between exams.. so I guess that gives an answer for it.. these last 15 days are very stressful and you should not over burn yourself.. so laugh, love the time spent with pals and sleep well.. but work according to the schedule
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE ONE DAY BEFORE EXAM?
Hmmm.. Now you all should remember one thing when your at the entrance of an exam hall… Hard work always pays.. It’s not a single day which matters in life.. It’s the whole life which matters the most… So when it comes to entrance u all should remember that the final result depends on your one year hard work and not the last day.. but yehh.. last day is imp too.. Specially for AIPG.. Medical papers are too difficult to remember.. especially when you mug the question from the different subjects which hardly goes deep into your head.. so one day before you need to revise at least the question papers which are most likely to come always.. so do it, you don’t have to read the explanation and all.. but you should at least remember the questions and answers.
And yes… chillllllll.. your brain needs rest .. so make sure you sleep well, laugh and give the best attempt at full concentration of yours… hope is what matters at the end,,
THE INSIDE STORY
Here I am just giving you a bird view of many entrance exams.. may be its very difficult to be specific but it does explain you something about each exam.
AIIMS
Hmmm.. I was not able to clear it though.. had got 328 rank,, not bad after a preparation of 6 month. Do fill the form.. many people will advise u not to waste money and time to give it.. people will say “ are!! Getting rank in Aiims is impossible at first attempt”… yup… but never give exam thinking that u need to get a seat in it.. but give it to test urself
Your actual preparation starts when you give Aiims exam.. its then you come to know how much you were able to recollect at the exam day. So you all should try it once.
PGI
I loved this one.. one of the best which most of you miss.. generally Dec session, romantic weather, just love it… now when it comes to PGI entrance exam , the seats are less too.,, quite similar to Aiims.. but I guess very few people apply for it,, but the advantage of giving PGI is you all will get your result within 8 hours… quite different than in Aiims.. getting an instant result in PGI boosts your moral,, unlike the Aiims where your have to wait for months to get to know your rank.. the question are mostly repeated from past PGI papers . Hence doing those papers from bytes are out most imp.. the top 10 rank varies In just few point percentages. So in those 100 question max 90 should be attempted.. believe me .. it’s true that most of the time guess works do go wrong..
So no matter who says … do give PGI.. its worth..
AIPG
Although lost it by 3%.. l,, but believe me.. they follow a set of pattern for exam.. most of the questions are repeated. It takes around an hour to mark those repeated question.. but the most difficult task Is to answer the new once,, anyway each question is imp.. marking the repeated question is most imp first than the new once.. so make sure you do medical papers too specially from other subjects. When you reading mudit khanna, do read all subjects , then mark the question which is related to you.. for example chromosome questions is given in pediatrics in their subject but its related to us also.. it’s here your effort makes a difference.. without medical papers you won’t be able to clear AIPG, and you need to follow the same rule for Aiims medical papers too. They do ask question from national boards papers mostly from the 70’s papers.. but make sure you have done rest of the books before doing this.. and yes.. you need to remember the other main thing also.. The negative marking.. that costs a lot.. I advise you all to mark max around 170-180,, not more than that because the cutoff generally ranges from 65% to 75%.
Yes.. it’s one of the most imp exams.. but the people who are giving the 1st attempt should not lose hope if they don’t clear it .. you need time for it.. maybe there are many who took a drop a year and I am sure they do deserve something more from it.. if you truly deserve it you will get it.. if not then make sure you give the best attempt till the last exams..
KCET
This is a Karnataka state entrance exam.. it’s like any state exam.. but one of the imp one.. the question are almost repeated and hardly any new things.. but it’s not that easy.. the seats are less and there are many people with same marks and yes.. reservation screws you when it comes to Kcet too.. hardly any use if you cross 25 ranks in GM.. but keeping the expectation apart, work had to reach that top 10 so that you get the dream branch.. yes.. the fees is quite more than the AIPG but it’s quite less compared to Comed and other exams.. and there is no negative marking.. be careful while attempting.. each mark is crucial.. also.. last year paper was indeed tough… so u need to be good with theory hence forth
Comed- K
People say,.,, its toughest after AIPG.. I don’t believe that,, yes I do agree that this exam is quite competitive and tests you to the core,, why?? I will tell you
The questions are mostly found in the discussion matter of all those books which has been mentioned, and specially past 2 years of Kcet and comed-K medical papers..
The main difference is the set of options they provide.. they really confuse you.. most of the options are so twisted , that really don’t cross your mind.. it just looks difficult.. but you need to understand the question properly then find the answer,, if you really don’t know what they have asked then answering comed-K becomes damn difficult.180 questions.. quite lot of time.. no extra prep… but take time to answer.. follow the rule of four.
Manipal
One of the genuine one.. in fact more genuine than AIPG.. you get marks with a click of the mouse button. During my time the pattern was quite different.. but I guess the exam consists of 200 questions now and there is no negative marking also,, and I guess the Manipal reservation is also removed from this year.. and the number of seats are more as it included two colleges., I really don’t know the latest pattern but I do believe one thing.. the questions are mostly theory oriented and taken directly from the textbooks.. so this is quite difficult, but not impossible.. repeated questions r quite less.
KLE/KAHE
Please don’t make a special prep for this.. just go and try your luck,, but AIPG prep + luck does give you a rank here..
Abshetty/NITTE
hmmm.. quite good… special preparation not needed.. mostly asked from recent papers and pulse and Dentest.. Specially from synopsis
The last one!!
I have been asked by many,, may be ,,I am still young to answer.. just doing my MDS, quite far from what’s called reality ,, many new aspirants to ask me one complicated question…
IS IT REALLY NECESSARY TO MDS?
IS IT WORTH DOING?
HOW MUCH SALARY WILL GET AFTER MDS?
MY FRIEND SAYS U CAN LEARN ALL THE THINGS IN CLINIC ONLY.. WHY SHOULD I WASTE MY 3 YEARS?
Hold on… first think whether you will be make it.. clearing a entrance with a GM category is in fact very difficult… before asking question first see how much your are capable of committing to it.. its note easy..
And when it comes to those question.. remember “YOU DON’T KNOW UNLESS U TRY”
For each individual priorities are different, but money is not the only thing.. there is something called a dream, a hope, a satisfaction for an individual, for me MDS was dream.. and I really don’t care for the future because god really don’t give chances always,, isn’t it?.. Yeh I do say that budget matters, except for AIIMSs, AIPG, and PGI , in other exams ,fees are high.. in fact I too would have dropped the idea I did not had such supporting family.. but you should not keep the KCET and Comed fees in mind and start prep.. in fact you should not think about seat at all.. you should only struggle hard to achieve that perfection which clears you through AIPG,.. yes I do agree that you might not clear at the end.. but you really can’t keep the negative thoughts and starts prep… its you thoughts which make impossible - possible.. be ready to face the reality but don’t be fooled by the fear of failure at the start of entrance prep. It makes a lot of difference.
If you really feel MDS is not an option for then, dude,,, shift to some other field,, may be u might shine there,, but if your strong enough to face each problem of life then come.. sail with us.
The WINNER.??
I have seen many who have left the prep in middle, may be due to some family problem, some other, but you all need to remember one thing.. Study is not everything in MDS prep.. it’s how you manage friends, how you mange time, how you manage your parents force to put a clinic or how to manage the force of your boyfriend/ girlfriend marriage proposal.. the winner is one who manages all these things and still completes the task of reading at stands in front of the exam center with that deep confidence of achieving something special at the end.. the fear, the adrenaline rush which he feels when he get the result… the depression when he/she need to face when he tastes the failure for the first time..
Remember..MDS is not life. But it’s a part,.. life is game… and these are the part of it.. you really don’t know where’s your destiny, but until you play the game of life,,, until you move with it,, you never know where you will end up..
So start playing now.. who knows… you might be next one to write another beautiful page in the story called .. “ WINNER”
And for the new aspirants who think it’s impossible.. Remember“THE GREAT PLEASURE IN LIFE IS IN DOING WHAT PEOPLE SAY YOU CAN NOT DO”
Thank you for reading this :)

EXTENSION OF THE BLOG..SPECIAL THANKS TO DR.NILESH KADAM for giving the answer to another imp question
NATIONAL BOARDS.. IS IT IMP???
Basic Question which student usually ask (mainly student who are new to such ALL India exam) that WHAT IS NBD? .
Basically these are the entrance exams conducted in US for admission to DDS course there which is conducted in parts.
The purpose of doing these papers is like when You look at old papers right from aipg 2001 to 2009 , there is History of atleast 20 Q/ paper (on an average)
Many people will say NBD is simple no need to do it u can solve it if it comes.!!!
My Ans - Yes very True its simple, No doubt about it.
But wht I think is when u already know the answer u are not in a position to do any 0.1 percent chances of mistake.
But if u reading NBD for the first tyme u may think in other way and go wrong. I ll say there are 1 percent chance.
In all exams topper also do silly mistake , silly mistake in NBD is CRIME in My sense.
Another Question-
Do we have to read only clinical or basic also?????
My ans- Try to finish clinical first , its utmost Imp in both
Basic had history of 1-2 Question been asked in each paper.
U cant really neglect Basic NBD though
So one has to read basic NBD for the reason it wil clear some doubts and concepts.
Is the answer justified in NBD????
My ans-- Since these questions being directly picked from NBD ans cannot be changed since they directly picked line to line from these papers
Stick to the ans wht they gave –
One line I used to say NBD = GOD , follow this
Now for the freshers –
There is not much tyme for the preparation of NBD .
I ll say-- Try to finish clinical NBD atleast .
Basic u can take chances.
Why do I say this Because , Basic Question mainly asked from medical papers in major bulk , ultimately it clears some Question of NBD too.
So if u doing Medical papers nicely, u can opt out Basic NBD!!
REPEATERS
U people know well what NBD meant and U have the sufficient time to read it
Better read
Time management—
There are many papers OF NBD
Now main papers being from 1977 to 1989 . these are IMPortant
Newer Question set also available but u cant finish all the papers it will b hectic
So better read specific papers which are in trend .
There are on an average 9 papers per subjects if u take one paper per day u can finish one subject per 10 days
HOW?????
Paper will take 90 minutes maximum, and many repeat Question in subsequent papers So later u can finish in 60 min . It takes around 12 hours to finish one subject. U can try doing NBD early in the morning when u ll b fresh TO CONCLUDE- I planned my study with NBD those are my strong feelings about it , so I explained it to you. AIPG 10 was exception for the reason NBD was not asked, but I think AIPG 11 wil be having atleast 20 Question from NBD ( strong belief) One sentence at the end AIPG PREPARATION IS NEVER COMPLETE WITHOUT DOING NATIONAL BOARDS DR.NILESH KADAM (1st PG conservative, Gdc Goa ) ( Inspired from Dr. Suresh Shenvi 2nd pg from CODS Davangiri to write some things which are really worth, Thanks Shenvi ) --------------************-----------------****************-------------- Thank you for reading this :) Regards Dr.Suresh D shenvi [Pls note: this is not for publicity... it’s just a small effort to guide the new aspirants.
